Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel The Great Gatsby is known and praised as being an American classic, and although I liked both the book and newest film adaptation, neither are extraordinary.   Continue Reading →

Tarantino films are a brand. His brand is witty (relying on a dialogue heavy screenplay), and bloody – teeth clenching, face covering – bloody. Django Unchained builds upon this brand, and with Tarantino, I wouldn’t expect anything less.  Continue Reading →

001_oblivion_poster

While Oblivion does not break or transcend the sci-fi genre, it sets a good precedent for this year’s sci-fi films. Without spoiling the movie, Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is a drone repair man stationed on Earth with his partner Victoria after a great alien invasion. In two weeks their mission will finally be complete and they can leave Earth behind for good. However, it’s not that simple for Jack, who constantly has dreams of his life before the war, even though his memory was supposed to be wiped clean. And now, as more and more equipment is being sabotaged, Jack begins to question his mission.  Continue Reading →

?????????????????????

Hollywood knows the role of Dwayne Johnson and its in every big-budget blockbuster. And like the Hydra in Greek mythology, when one Rock movie exits the theater, two more take its place. But full disclosure, I am a huge Rock fan; however, even I think that the saturation point for the amount of Rock films in a year might be near. Continue Reading →

At least this wasn’t as eye-gougingly bad as The Wiz. But to make it absolutely clear, it wasn’t good. Oz The Great and Powerful tells the story of the witches of Oz and Oscar, a traveling magician who becomes the man behind the curtain.  Continue Reading →

I’m still waiting for the day when a movie depicts a high school experience similar to mine. The Perks of a Wildflower didn’t seem as genuine as I wanted and maybe if I could relate to the characters a little more, I would have had a better experience. Continue Reading →

Frankenweenie (2012)

Rated: PG

1 hr 27 min

frankenweenie-poster

Frankenweenie is an animated remake of the 1984 short film of the same name. In fact, according to Wikipedia, Tim Burton was fired from Disney that year because they believed his film was unusable and that he wasted their resources. I guess it’s funny how some things come full circle.  Continue Reading →
